Austin Air HealthMate vs Airpura R600: same price, different ownership

Airpura air purifier in white

The Austin Air HealthMate and the Airpura R600 cost almost the same, $844.99 and $849.98, and both pair True HEPA with a real carbon bed in a steel cabinet. The difference is how they are built to be owned. The HealthMate uses one large filter designed to last up to five years, so it costs the least to run. The R600 covers a bigger space, carries more carbon, has a variable-speed fan and the longer warranty, but its carbon is replaced every two years. If you want the lowest upkeep, choose the HealthMate. If you want more coverage and carbon for a larger or open-plan space, choose the R600.

Specifications are each maker's. Prices are ours on October 20, 2026, black or white finish. The five-year filter figures are worked out in what an air purifier costs over five years.

Coverage: why the R600 covers more

Both makers state coverage at two air changes an hour. On that basis the HealthMate is rated for 750 sq ft and the R600 for 2,000 sq ft, because the R600 moves more air. For one bedroom or living room, either is plenty. For an open kitchen and living area, the R600 has the headroom. See what size air purifier you need.

Running cost: why the HealthMate costs less

Austin Air builds one large, sealed filter and replaces it as a unit, designed to last up to five years in normal home use. Airpura splits its filters into stages you change separately: the carbon every two years, the prefilter every year, and the HEPA every three to five. That lets you change only what is spent, but over five years it adds roughly $670 to $880 to the R600.
