Short answer: the Airpura R600 is the all-purpose machine in Airpura's lineup: 18 lbs of activated carbon, a True HEPA filter, 560 CFM of airflow and an all-metal cabinet built in Canada, for $849.98. It suits a household that wants particles and everyday chemical smells handled in a large room or open living area, without one specific chemical problem to target. If you have a specific problem, a sibling model fits better, and we say which below.

What it does well
- Both halves of the job. The True HEPA filter catches dust, pollen, dander and smoke particles. The 18 lb carbon bed handles what HEPA cannot: cooking smells, pet odor and the everyday chemicals that off-gas from furniture and cleaning products.
- Airflow for a big room. At 560 CFM it moves enough air to keep a living area or an open-plan space turning over, which a small purifier cannot do however good its filter is.
- Quiet on low. 35 dB on low is quiet enough for a bedroom at night.
- Built to last. A sealed metal cabinet, so air cannot slip around the filters, and a 10-year labor warranty.
What to know before you buy
- It is loud on high. 62 dB at 6 feet is about the level of a normal conversation. A simple routine is to run it high while you are out of the room and lower while you are in it.
- No sensor, no app. It has a simple dial. It does not adjust itself to the air.
- Standard carbon. The carbon is general-purpose. For a strong, specific chemical problem, a treated or heavier carbon bed does more (see below).
- Size the room honestly. Airpura's 2,000 sq ft rating is at two air changes an hour, the everyday target. For asthma, smoke or chemical sensitivity, where four air changes is the goal, plan on about 1,000 sq ft. The size calculator does this for your room.
R600 or a sibling?
- R400: the same idea, smaller, for a single room.
- R614: the same machine with Super HEPA, for asthma or a specific concern about very fine particles. See 600 vs 614.
- R700: the same carbon and HEPA at 635 CFM, for higher ceilings or a larger open plan.
- V600: treated carbon, when chemical smells or off-gassing are the main problem.
- C600: 26 lbs of carbon, for a heavy chemical load. It uses a HepaBarrier rather than True HEPA, so it is a gas machine first.
