Airpura V600 vs C600: treated carbon and True HEPA, or more carbon?

Airpura V600 air purifier

Short answer: the Airpura V600 and C600 are both chemical machines on the same 600-series cabinet, airflow and room size, but they make opposite trade-offs. The V600 has 18 lbs of impregnated (treated) carbon plus a True HEPA filter, so it handles targeted chemicals and fine particles. The C600 carries 26 lbs of activated carbon, among the heaviest beds we sell at this size, with a HEPA Barrier filter Airpura rates at about 95% instead of True HEPA. Pick the V600 if particles matter too, or if a specific chemical source like new flooring or cabinetry is the problem. Pick the C600 for the heaviest ongoing chemical and odor load when particles are secondary.

The trade-off: treated carbon and True HEPA, or more carbon

Carbon removes gases and smells by holding them on its surface. More carbon means more capacity, which is why the C600's 26 lbs suits a home where the chemical load never lets up: chemical sensitivity, heavy odors, a workshop next to living space. The cost is the particle filter. The C600's HEPA Barrier catches most particles but is not True HEPA.

The V600 carries less carbon, but it is impregnated: chemically treated to widen the range of compounds it holds. Airpura aims it at VOCs from synthetic flooring, PVC, adhesives, solvents and new building materials. It keeps True HEPA, so dust, dander, pollen and smoke particles are covered as well.

What about formaldehyde?

Neither is our first pick for it. Plain activated carbon, like the C600's, holds formaldehyde poorly. If formaldehyde from pressed wood or new furniture is the main concern, look at the Airpura F600, whose carbon is targeted at it. See the best air purifier for formaldehyde.

Which one to buy

  • V600: renovation, new flooring or cabinets, solvent or adhesive smells, and anyone who also wants allergy-grade particle filtration.
  • C600: multiple chemical sensitivity, constant heavy odors, or a home where chemicals are the whole problem and particles are not.
  • Smoke from cigarettes or wildfire: neither. See Airpura T600 vs C600 and wildfire smoke.

Common questions

Is the C600 better than the V600 for chemicals?

It holds more: 26 lbs against 18. The V600's carbon is treated to widen what it holds, and it keeps True HEPA. Which is better depends on whether particles matter in your home.

Does the C600 have a HEPA filter?

It has a HEPA Barrier post-filter that Airpura rates at about 95%. It is not True HEPA. The V600 is.

Which is quieter?

Airpura's sales sheet gives the C600 35 dB on low and 62 dB on high, measured at 6 ft. We do not have a separate published figure for the V600, which moves the same 560 CFM.
