Where other Austin Air models address particulates and chemicals through four or five stages, the Immunity Machine layers eight phases of filtration to provide the broadest spectrum of airborne defense in the lineup. It is the appropriate specification when a single filtration mechanism is insufficient for the environment or the individual's immune status.
Filtration System — 8 Phases
The Immunity Machine's multi-phase architecture is designed to address airborne threats across four categories: large particulates, fine particulates, chemical gases, and biological contaminants.
Phases 1–2 — Pre-Filtration
Dual pre-filter stages capture large and medium airborne particles — dust, hair, mold spores, and debris — before they reach the primary filter assembly. Pre-filtration extends the operational life of all downstream stages.
Phase 3 — True Medical-Grade HEPA
Certified to capture 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns and 99% at 0.1 microns. Addresses the full spectrum of fine particulate contamination: pollen, pet dander, PM2.5, mold spores, bacteria, and airborne viruses. The HEPA specification is the same used in medical and laboratory environments.
Phase 4 — Activated Carbon
A granular activated carbon stage addresses VOCs, gaseous pollutants, smoke compounds, and chemical odors through physical adsorption. This stage handles the broad-spectrum chemical load before it reaches the HEGA stage.
Phase 5 — HEGA Carbon Cloth (High Efficiency Gas Adsorption)
HEGA is a carbon-impregnated cloth media originally developed for British military chemical defense. Unlike granular activated carbon, HEGA captures chemical compounds at the trace-level concentrations and molecular sizes that standard carbon cannot reliably address. It provides a secondary chemical defense layer specifically calibrated for gaseous compounds and low-concentration VOC exposure.
Phases 6–8 — Specialized Immune-Defense Media
The Immunity Machine's remaining three phases address biological and immune-specific airborne threats through additional specialized filtration media, providing defense against viral particles, biological aerosols, and fine biological contaminants that pass through earlier stages. Mechanical filtration only. The Immunity Machine produces no ozone, no ions, and no secondary chemical output. For immune-compromised individuals and those with chemical sensitivity, this is a clinical requirement: units that generate ozone or ions introduce additional airborne chemical variables into the environment they are meant to protect.
