For individuals with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) or significant chemical reactivity who need targeted VOC defense in a smaller space, the HealthMate Plus Junior provides heavy chemical filtration at the appropriate scale.

Stage 1 — Large Particle Pre-Filter
Captures dust, hair, and larger airborne particles at the intake, extending the effective service life of downstream filter stages.

Stage 2 — Medium Particle Pre-Filter
A secondary mechanical layer targets finer particles before they reach the carbon and HEPA stages.

This is the defining difference between the HealthMate Plus Junior and the standard HealthMate Junior. Mechanical filtration only. The HealthMate Plus Junior generates no ozone, no ions, and no UV radiation. For individuals with MCS, ionizers and ozone-producing technology are common reactivity triggers. This unit produces none.

Austin Air filters are rated for 5 years under normal residential use — and often last longer when running below the rated coverage capacity. The long filter life is a direct result of the large carbon bed (6.5–15 lbs depending on model): more carbon means more capacity before saturation. Austin Air units run a 3-speed centrifugal fan. Speed 1 is quiet enough for sleeping. Speed 2 is a consistent low hum that most people find unobtrusive. Speed 3 moves the most air and is best for daytime use or for clearing a room quickly after cooking, smoke, or a high-pollen day.

Yes — the Plus models are specifically designed for chemical sensitivity. Part of their carbon is treated for better adsorption of specific chemicals such as formaldehyde, which plain carbon holds poorly. Standard HEPA-only units and even standard carbon units do not address these compound classes.

Yes — and it's recommended. Austin Air units are built for continuous operation. The motors are rated for it and many customers run them year-round without issues. Continuous operation also gives you the best air quality results: the air is cycled more frequently, keeping particulate and VOC levels consistently low. Running the unit continuously at a lower speed is better than running it intermittently on high.
