Medical-Grade HEPA for Bedrooms, Nurseries, and Compact Living Spaces

The Austin Air HealthMate Junior® delivers the same four-stage filtration technology as the full-size HealthMate in a compact unit sized for bedrooms, nurseries, home offices, and apartments. It is not a simplified or reduced product — it is the same clinical filtration architecture in a form factor appropriate for smaller rooms.

For individuals who need medical-grade air quality in a single room, the HealthMate Junior provides that without requiring a full-size unit.

Full specifications filtration stages, filter life, construction, coverage

Filtration System — 4 Stages

Stage 1 — Large Particle Pre-Filter
Mechanical capture of dust, pet hair, and larger airborne debris at the intake. Protects downstream stages and extends the life of the primary filter assembly.

Stage 2 — Medium Particle Pre-Filter
Secondary filtration layer targeting finer particles — mold spores, fine dust, and mid-range airborne matter — before they reach the HEPA stage.

Stage 3 — Enhanced Carbon Blend Mineral Blend
A enhanced carbon blend that addresses VOCs, gaseous chemicals, and household odors. Activated carbon adsorbs common VOCs, smoke compounds, and gases. activated carbon contributes formaldehyde reduction, targeting a compound that standard activated carbon alone handles less effectively. The carbon charge is proportioned for the unit's room coverage target, maintaining the same filtration integrity at a scale appropriate for smaller spaces.

Stage 4 — True Medical-Grade HEPA
Rated to capture 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns and 99% at 0.1 microns. Removes pollen, pet dander, dust, mold spores, bacteria, and airborne viruses. The HEPA specification is identical to that used in the full-size HealthMate.

Filter Lifespan — 5 Years

The HealthMate Junior carries the same 5-year filter guarantee as the full-size HealthMate lineup. This is a significant cost-of-ownership advantage over purifiers requiring 6–12 month replacement cycles.

Construction

All-steel housing — no plastic shell. The HealthMate Junior does not introduce VOC off-gassing from its own chassis, which matters for chemically sensitive users and for use in nurseries where material safety is a concern. 360-degree air intake for efficient room circulation.

No Ionizer. No Ozone. No UV.

Mechanical filtration only. No secondary chemical output. The HealthMate Junior is appropriate for chemically sensitive adults and for use around children and infants where ozone and ion-generating technology pose unnecessary respiratory risk.

Coverage

Air Changes per Hour Coverage Area
1x per hour Up to 700 sq ft
2x per hour Up to 350 sq ft

Designed for single-room use. For whole-home or open-plan coverage, the full-size HealthMate is the correct specification.

Who This Is For

  • Individuals needing medical-grade HEPA filtration in a single room — bedroom, nursery, or home office
  • Apartment or smaller home residents where a full-size unit exceeds room requirements
  • Those with asthma, allergies, or general chemical sensitivity who want room-level protection
  • Families requiring a unit safe for use around infants or children — no ozone, no ionizer, steel construction

HealthMate Junior vs. HealthMate Plus Junior: The standard Junior uses activated enhanced carbon mineral for general VOC and chemical reduction. The HealthMate Plus Junior uses an enhanced activated carbon formulation specifically calibrated for formaldehyde and ammonia — the appropriate choice for MCS or significant chemical sensitivity. If chemical load is the primary concern, specify the Plus Junior.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you buy.

The Junior is designed for rooms up to 700 sq ft. It's sized specifically for bedrooms and home offices — running below rated capacity in a typical 300–500 sq ft bedroom, which keeps noise levels low and extends filter life well beyond the 5-year estimate.

Austin Air filters are rated for 5 years under normal residential use — and often last longer when running below the rated coverage capacity. The long filter life is a direct result of the large carbon bed (6.5–15 lbs depending on model): more carbon means more capacity before saturation. Replacement filters are available on our filters page.

Austin Air units run a 3-speed centrifugal fan. Speed 1 is quiet enough for sleeping. Speed 2 is a consistent low hum that most people find unobtrusive. Speed 3 moves the most air and is best for daytime use or for clearing a room quickly after cooking, smoke, or a high-pollen day.

No. This unit uses only mechanical filtration — no ionizer, no UV, no ozone generator. It is safe for people with asthma, chemical sensitivity, and other respiratory conditions where ozone is a known irritant. This is a firm design standard across the entire Austin Air lineup.

Yes. Austin Air and Airpura units are used by patients with asthma, allergies, and chemical sensitivity. The True HEPA captures particle-class triggers and the activated carbon addresses VOCs, odors, and chemical compounds. No ionizer, no ozone — safe for respiratory conditions. For MCS specifically, the HealthMate Plus or Airpura C600 have the most relevant specifications.

Yes — and it's recommended. Austin Air units are built for continuous operation. The motors are rated for it and many customers run them year-round without issues. Continuous operation also gives you the best air quality results: the air is cycled more frequently, keeping particulate and VOC levels consistently low. Running the unit continuously at a lower speed is better than running it intermittently on high.

Austin Air units ship free directly from the manufacturer in Buffalo, NY. Most orders arrive in 3 to 7 business days, including 1 to 3 business days to process. You will receive a tracking number once your order ships. Large units may ship via freight — if so, we will contact you to arrange a delivery window.

Austin Air units carry a 5-year mechanical warranty on parts and labor from the date of purchase. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and mechanical failure under normal residential use. Yes. No ionizer, no ozone, no UV. Austin Air machines have been used in clinical trials at Johns Hopkins University and in a Cincinnati Children's Hospital study of children with asthma, so they are built for exactly this setting.
